A few hours ago, MediaTek introduced its first millimeter wave (mmWave) modem, which is known as MediaTek M80. The Mediatek M80 modem can achieve a maximum download speed of 7.67 Gbps and a maximum upload speed of 3.76 Gbps. In addition to the 5G millimeter wave version, the Mediatek M80 modem has another version, i.e. Sub-6 Ghz; But it’s the mmWave feature that sets it apart from MediaTek’s M70 modem.

M80 modem samples are supposed to be sent to companies for testing this year. Apart from smartphones, Mediatek M80 modem will be used in laptops and Mi-Fi hotspots and other devices. Mediatek has not yet officially said which of the Dimensity series processors will be equipped with the M80 modem; But according to rumors, this processor will be Dimension 2000.
