Introducing Gorilla Glass DX and DX+ – Corning products to protect smartphone camera lenses
Gorilla Glass is a protective coating currently used by more From the top 45 brands in the market, it has been used in more than 8 billion devices, and Corning Inc. is looking to use this technology to protect the Dolby lens in its new step. It is a smartphone that is more complicated compared to the smartphone screen protector due to the requirements related to lens durability and proper light transmission. According to Corning executives, Gorilla Glass DX and DX+ have more advanced optical performance and are more scratch and damage resistant than current smartphone camera lens protectors.
The photography industry has seen significant changes in the past decade. As the number of photos taken with mobile phones has increased from 350 billion in 2010 to 1.4 trillion. Therefore, smartphone camera technology has always been one of the main criteria in buying these products. As you know, smartphone cameras must maximize the amount of light received from the environment and minimize light reflection in order to provide image quality at a professional level and in various light conditions. This is what apparently Corning’s new glasses have been designed and produced with in mind.
Jaymin Amin, vice president and general manager of Corning, says about these resistant glasses: “For a long time, in conventional cameras Anti-reflective coatings have been used to improve light reception. However, these coatings are usually easily scratched and have a negative impact on image quality. Corning’s [new] Gorilla Glass composites not only make mobile devices’ camera lenses more durable and scratch-resistant than today’s glass, but also provide the improved optical performance these devices require.”
According to the manufacturer, increasing the transparency of these protective glasses allows more light (up to 98%) to pass through the lenses and reach the camera sensor. DX and DX+ have less light reflection and radiation and provide users with higher quality photos by providing more clarity. Of course, devices equipped with these new glasses have not yet been announced, but Corning from the Korean company Samsung as the first manufacturer. It is mentioned that it will use the new coating of Gorilla Glass camera lenses in its phones. The official schedule of the Korean giant in the near future will be the Galaxy Unpacked event on August 11, where we will probably see Corning’s new tempered glass on the camera lens of one of the introduced smartphones.
