Introducing Black Shark 3 and 3 Pro – the interpretation of gamers’ dreams with 2020 Black Shark flagships

News unit It was in April 2018 that Xiaomi with the launch of its first gaming phone named Black Shark officially entered the gaming phone market. Following this incident, Black Shark – as one of the important sub-brands of Xiaomi – the next versions of this phone with the names Black Shark 2,Black Shark Helo and BlackShark 2 Pro also entered the market. Now, this sub-brand has just produced two new gaming smartphones with the names Black Shark 3 and Black Shark 3 Pro announced. According to the manufacturer’s claim, these two devices are the first gaming phones equipped with 5G communication. But this claim does not seem to be very correct because a few days ago, the gaming smartphone iQOO 3 was introduced with 5G communication.

As expected from a flagship of 2020, Black Shark’s new smartphones are equipped with the most powerful chip in the world, i.e. Snapdragon 865, are equipped. Along with this advantage, high-resolution screens, plenty of memory, strong battery, beautiful design, cooling system and everything else that can be expected from a high-end gaming phone can be found in these two phones. Black Shark’s new smartphones are similar in terms of design, but the Pro version, in addition to being larger, also has higher hardware specifications. Therefore, at first, to introduce Black Shark 3 Pro and then, we will examine the normal version and express its differences.

• Black Shark 3 Pro

Length, width Black Shark 3 Pro are 177.79 and 83.29 mm. The thickness of the phone is 10.1 mm, which reaches 10.48 mm in the thickest part. This smartphone weighs 253 grams and is apparently the heaviest smartphone in the world. The body of the phone is a combination of metal and glass. On the front, there is no notch or hole in the display. Black Shark calls this device full-screen, but the borders at the top and bottom seem a bit too much. Looking at the back of the device, the first thing that stands out is the illuminated and green Black Shark logo. In addition to the special design of the back cover, the triangle-shaped camera module is also interesting in its own way. This phone is produced in black and gray colors.

7.1 inch display Black Shark 3 Pro is very large and it can be said that it is the largest after the 7.2-inch screen Huawei Mate 20 X, comes in second place. The QHD+ resolution (equivalent to 1440 x 3120 pixels) of this display brings its density to 483 pixels per inch. The brightness of this AMOLED display is equal to 500 nits and its aspect ratio is 19.5:9.

Update rate in the display of phones such as Asus ROG Phone 2 or Galaxy S20 reaches 120 Hz. In relation to Black Shark 3 Pro, we cannot expect this, but the refresh rate of the screen of this phone and its normal version is 90 Hz. According to BlackShark, thanks to the dedicated MEMC chip and intelligent motion compensation technology, the refresh rate of the display, the screen of both phones in this category, BlackShark 3 and BlackShark 3 Pro, also support the upgrade of video rates from 25 to 90 Hz.

Another point that is very important for a gaming phone is the screen’s responsiveness to touch, which is expressed by a quantity known as “touch response rate”. According to the manufacturer’s claim, this quantity is equal to 270 Hz in the Black Shark 3 Pro display. This has reduced the display delay to 24 milliseconds and according to Black Shark, it can be said that the display of this phone has the lowest delay currently. Needless to say, the Master Touch feature in this phone has been upgraded to version 3.0. This means that the 4 pressure-sensitive sensors used in the display have made the pressure zone 48% larger than before.

As it was said at the beginning, Black Shark produces this phone from 7nm chipset Snapdragon 865 has been used. This 8-core chip consists of 1 2.84 GHz core and 3 2.42 GHz cores (based on Cortex A77 processors) and 4 1.8 GHz cores (based on Cortex A55 processors architecture) and its graphics processing unit is Adreno 650. The internal memory of the phone is 256 GB, but depending on the configuration, the user will have 8 or 12 GB of RAM. The memory is of UFS 3.0 type and the RAM is of LPDDR5 type with dual channel. According to Black Shark, these things will be effective in high-speed and smooth data transfer, fast loading of games and switching between scenes. Needless to say, there is no mention of memory card support.

In the triangular module behind the device, we see the presence of three cameras with LED flash. The main camera of the set is 64 megapixels and the aperture of its 6-piece lens is f/1.8. Next to this camera, there is a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera (with f/2.25 aperture) and a 5-megapixel depth-sensing camera (with f/2.2 aperture). The front camera – which is placed on the upper border – is 20 megapixels and its aperture is f/2.2. The Black Shark 3 Pro camera set is equipped with artificial intelligence and uses facilities such as HDR, phase detection autofocus and night mode. Slow-motion video recording, 4K video recording at 60 frames per second, as well as 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second are other features of this camera.

One of the strengths of Black Shark 3 Pro is its powerful battery. Two 2,500 mAh batteries are used in this phone, which provides a total capacity of 5,000 mAh. Apart from the Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging technology with 18V power, this battery also supports a high-speed 65W charger that can charge the battery from 0 to 50% within 12 minutes. It will take 38 minutes to fully charge the battery with this charger.

One of the interesting points about Black Shark 3 Pro is that these two batteries are charged in series, but they are discharged in parallel. Charging the batteries in series allows fast charging of 65 watts, and their parallel discharge helps to increase the battery life. According to the manufacturer’s claim, this type of battery is used for the first time in the smartphone industry. Another interesting point is that in addition to normal charging – which is done through the USB-C port – there are also 4 magnetic charging pins on the back of the device that support 18W fast charging. The advantage of these magnetic pins is that when the user faces the problem of lack of charge while playing, instead of connecting the battery to the main charger (via a USB cable) – which makes playing to some extent impossible – the magnetic charger can be connected to this He connected the pins and easily charged the battery while continuing the game.

We know that playing heavy games causes the phone to heat up by putting pressure on the chipset. To solve this problem, Black Shark has used a liquid cooling system. This system is sandwich-shaped and according to Black Shark, the number of heat pipes has been doubled compared to the previous model. Considering that the sound also plays an important role in the quality of the game, Black Shark has used suitable stereo speakers in this phone. According to the manufacturer, these speakers are located in front of the device, so holding the phone while playing does not stop the sound of the speakers.

When we hold the phone horizontally to play games, two physical pop-up buttons can be seen on both sides of the upper edge of the phone (called the phone’s shoulders). which Black Shark calls Master Button. In game mode, the user has the option to activate these buttons and request a specific function from these buttons depending on the type of game (for example, in action games, it can act as a gun trigger). These buttons extend 21 mm on the shoulder of the phone and protrude 1.5 mm from the body of the device. Of course, this is not the first time that such buttons are used on the shoulder of gaming phones. For example, in the Asus ROG Phone series, these buttons were available in the form of capacitors. But the pop-up buttons on the Black Shark 3 Pro convey better tactile feedback and, according to the manufacturer, withstand at least 300,000 presses.

The presence of Snapdragon 865 means that this phone has fifth generation communication. But the interesting thing is the way the antennas are placed on the back of the phone. The antennas are arranged in the form of two X letters that meet in the center. Not only does this shape BlackShark’s unique design, but it also ensures that no signal is blocked when holding the phone horizontally. Another point is that, after removing the headphone jack in Black Shark 2, we see that this jack has returned to Black Shark 3 Pro.

• Black Shark 3

This phone is designed in dimensions of 10.42 x 77.33 x 168.72 mm and its thickness reaches 10.8 mm in the thickest part. The weight of the phone is 222 grams. In this way, Black The Shark 3 is smaller and lighter than the Pro version, but in terms of appearance, there is no difference between them, except that the Black Shark 3 comes in silver in addition to black and gray.

The smaller dimensions of this phone will naturally bring a smaller screen. This screen has a diameter equal to 6.67 inches and its aspect ratio is 20:9. The resolution of the display has been reduced to FHD+ (equivalent to 1080 x 2400 pixels) and its density has been reduced to 394ppi, but its brightness is still 500 nits. Other display specifications of the Pro version (such as refresh rate, touch response rate, etc.) can be found here as well. According to the manufacturer’s claim, in order to reduce eye damage, it has managed to obtain approval from TÜV Rheinland.

Another difference Black Shark 3 with Pro version, in its configurations. Snapdragon 865 is also used in Black Shark 3, but this phone is produced in three different configurations; Basic model (with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory), medium model (with 12 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory) and advanced model (with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory). The interesting thing to note is that the 8 GB RAM technology of this phone is of LPDDR4x type, but the other two versions like the Pro version use LPDDR5 RAM.

The drop in specifications of the Black Shark 3 is also visible in the phone’s battery. Two 2,360 mAh batteries are used here, which brings its total capacity to 4,720 mAh. Other battery specifications are the same as the Pro version, except that the 8GB/128GB configuration has a 30W charger instead of a 65W charger.

It should be noted, there is no trace of physical pop-up buttons (called Master Buttons) in Black Shark 3.

• Price and time to market

According to the old strategy of Xiaomi, these phones will first enter the Chinese market and will be released to the global market after a while. Smartphone Black Shark 3 entered China from March 3 (March 13) and Black Shark 3 Pro will also be available to users in this country from March 10 (March 20).
