Apple: iPhone SE 2022 has the toughest protective glass on smartphones

Apple says that the protective glass on the front and back of the new iPhone SE is exactly the same as the one used in iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 and calls it the most resistant protector in the world of smartphones. Apple probably means the ceramic shield; But it does not mention it clearly. As a reminder, Apple unveiled a new technology called Ceramic Shield at the iPhone 12 family conference to increase screen resistance.

According to Apple’s claim, the new protector developed in collaboration with Corning , made by Gorilla Glass, is four times more resistant to drop tests than iPhones without the aforementioned protection. It may be interesting to know that to make the ceramic shield, nanometer (nanocrystal) ceramic crystals are added to the iPhone glass, which are actually harder than most metals.

This process may seem simple; But since most ceramics are not transparent, it is not so easy to make protective glass using them. According to Apple, by controlling the type of ceramic crystals and their degree of crystallinity, a unique formula can be created that maximizes the resistance of the ceramic while providing optical transparency.

Anyway, the use of ceramic shield in Apple’s budget phone can be a positive point; But maybe it would have been better for Apple to change the design of the iPhone SE by ignoring this issue.
